9 Auto Service Tips for Winter Driving!
Most parts of the country are now starting to experience the cooler days of fall. This means that winter is right around the corner. Now is the time to schedule auto service at your preferred auto center for an inspection of all the systems of your vehicle. This will provide the opportunity for your mechanic to make any necessary repairs so that you are driving as safe as possible.
Check out these nine winter auto service tips:
- Tires -- Under-inflated tires can cause them to overheat and increase the likelihood of a blowout. Make sure the tread is adequate, your wheels are in proper alignment, and tires rotated if needed. You may need to consider purchasing new tires.
- Brakes -- Make sure your brakes are functioning properly to meet the challenges of wet and icy road conditions.
- Car Battery -- Check the level of battery fluid and clean any corrosive buildup from the terminals and cable clamps. If your battery is more than three years old, make sure it is still holding a good charge.
- Radiator. The antifreeze/water mixture should be at the correct level to protect the engine from overheating.
- Hoses and belts -- Inspect for cracking, soft spots or other signs of poor condition.
- Air filter -- Replacing the air filter will help keep the motor running smoothly.
- Oil change -- Fresh clean oil will lubricate your engine so that it runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Fluid levels -- Engine fluids lubricate and serve as coolants by helping carry heat away from critical components. If fluid levels are too low, the cooling effect is reduced, increasing the possibility of overheating.
- Emergency kit. This should include water, snacks, jumper cables, flashlight (with extra batteries), road flares, first aid kit, blanket, and cell phone and charger.
