Let's take a look at the right oil change for high-mileage vehicles during the cold temperatures of winter. It's important to have oil changes performed on your car, especially those cars who have more of a heavier mileage, even more importantly before the cold of winter arrives.

How long can you go between oil changes and what is the right type of oil change becomes the big question.

One of the first things you should do is look at your owner's manual. It will give you the best advice on the correct oil change interval and the best type of oil to use for the temperatures you are driving in.

If you cannot locate your manual, then discuss oil changes with your auto repair mechanic. Most mechanics say either 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. However, with the older vehicles (and especially high-mileage), this interval could be different. And typically, your mechanic can offer you oil change coupons to make frequent oil changes more affordable!

With the newer vehicles, it may now be possible to go about 10,000 miles or more before worrying about oil changes. As long as your vehicle is in good shape, then you should have nothing to worry about. But here's a good question to ask yourself; "How much do I drive?" If you only drive, say about 10 miles a day a few times a week, then you shouldn't have to worry about it as much. But if you drive 20 miles to and from your destination every day, this is a different story.

To achieve the best performance from your vehicle in snow and ice, the best thing to remember is to have oil changes taken care of before winter hits, regardless of whether your vehicle has just a few or a lot of miles.

Don't forget your oil change coupons!
